LODGING

The SBR has a lodge with eight suites,  which will be shared by participants. We will try to accommodate men and women separately, but this cannot be guaranteed. Also, some attendants might be requested to share a double bed if necessary to ensure all those interested can participate in the course. This depends on the number and gender of participants who enroll. The suites have a bathroom, a closet, shelves and a desk each, and wi fi internet. There is no TV, and no air conditioning is necessary at the SBR. At the lodge, 28 beds (6 to 8 participants may be required to share a double bed) will be made available for participants.

The SBR also has a student´s dorm, which is normally used by trainees and student researchers. It has 7 bunker beds, one bathroom and shelves. The same bathroom will be shared by as many people request to stay at the dorm. There is no wi fi internet, no TV, and no air conditioning is necessary at the SBR. Those staying at the dorm can use the wi fi internet available at the Research Center (where the talks will take place). Participants staying at the dorm are requested to bring their own towels and bed sheets (2 bed sheets and one pillow case). Blankets and pillows will be provided. At the students´ dorm, 14 beds will be made available for participants.

TRANSPORTATION

Participants must fly into the airport of Ilhéus, Bahia, Brazil. There are daily connections between that airport to the airports of Salvador and the main Brazilian State capitals. For those coming from the USA, there is a direct flight from Miami to Salvador (the shortest flight time).

A shuttle van with a sign indicating SERRA BONITA will leave the Ilhéus airport at 5:00 PM, Juanuary 15th, and drive participants to the entrance of the Serra Bonita Reserve (3 hours travel), where they will be picked up by 4x4 vehicles and driven to the Reserve lodges (40´ travel). No other transportation service will be provided, so please avoid tardiness and make sure you are at the van at least 4:30 PM, January 15th.

On January 19th the same shuttle van will pick up participants at the entrance of the SBR and drive them to the Ilhéus airport. In order to arrive in time to take afternoon departure flights, the van must leave the SBR at 9:00 AM, so the 4x4 vehicles must be ready to leave the lodges at 8:00 AM that day. Breakfast will be served at 6:30 AM and all participants' baggage will be picked up at 7:30 AM at their respective lodges.

MEALS & LAUNDRY

Meals will be served at the Research Center at the scheduled hours. Please inform us if you have any food restrictions, checking this option in the registration form. No laundry shall be done at the Reserve.

WHAT TO BRING

Please bring your own medicines, insect repellent, sunscreen, clothing, personal hygiene items, flashlights, batteries, cell phones, chargers, computers and any personal items needed for your comfort. We highly recommend you bring umbrellas or raincoats, and enough clothes for rainy and cold weather, as you will be doing outdoor activities.

For your safety on the trails, please bring knee-high boots and/or leg protection gear (to protect you from snake bites), trousers or pants, and long sleeved shirts (to protect you from insect bites). The SBR does not take responsibility for accidents due to the lack of use of boots or protection gear, and we do not medicate anyone.

If you are staying at the students´ dorm, please do not forget to bring 2 bed sheets, a pillow case and a towel, for your own use.

We do not offer any of these items for loan, rental or sale. Please be aware that extra trips to town will be made at your own expense, and only in case of extreme necessity; there are no 4x4 vehicles other than the SBR´s own, in town, to hire for this purpose, and for each trip to town US$ 80 will be charged.
